Product Review

  • Great shoe

    Pros:
    - Extremely comfortable (feels like heaven wearing these straight after wearing sneakers or workboots)
    - Breathable
    - Feels bare
    - very light (made my foot movements more precise, agile)
    - Easily slipped on or off (no need to tie and untie

    Cons
    - Rubber isn't as hard as I'd like (Lasted about 6 months until rubber wore out)
    - Design is stupidly bad (Why not just make it more plain? it's less effort)
    - Price 100-150, the RRP fluctuates, now it's 150 before it was 100, makes sales deceiving. I paid 100 "on sale" but it only lasted me 6 months which I find pretty poor.
  • Best trail shoe I've ever worn

Trail Gloves are by far the best trail running shoes I have ever owned. The same soft inner allows for wear without socks. The soft heel cup has a similar, though less aggressive, wrap-around strap, but, like earlier versions, no actual plastic cup. The outsole curls up the back of the shoe slightly, which helps to prevent the heel from slipping back. The arch panel that extends from the narrow outsole up the arch is of harder material that past versions. This offers more protection from rock and sticks, without giving any arch support, but it does allow for the arch to pull up against the foot when the shoe is tightly laced, so my foot can’t slip around in the shoe on tilting surfaces, yet the forefoot is nice and wide and allows plenty of toe room. I have a moderately wide foot, and these fit perfectly. All in all, another great shoe from Merrell!
  • Great shoe for road and trail

This is the perfect minimalist shoe for packed dirt trails and street running. The treading isn't so thick that it slows you down, but the extra heel thickness is great for developing ankle strength. The high arch feel mellows out quickly after a few runs and then begins to feel like the road version of this shoe.
  • Great trail shoe, big improvement over the original!

The Merrell Trail Glove 3 is a fantastic minimalist option for both on and off road running. This shoe has made nice strides since the original. The shoe is a much lower profile and in general a much flatter base with less structure than the original, which lends itself nicely to both road and trail. The toe box is very roomy as are all Merrell barefoot shoes. The 4mm padding plus rock plate provide nice protection without losing too much road feel. The shoes have retained their unique lacing system and Vibram outsole, which provide good control even on steep climbs or descents. Overall, these should be great for anyone looking for a nice minimalist shoe while retaining a small amount of cushion / protection for trails or longer distance races. Happy running!
  • Great trail shoes

Yesterday the Trail Glove 3s that I ordered last week arrived. I tested them this morning fresh out of the box. They were great: Great traction & ground feel; adequate armoring against stones; light and nimble. No hot spots, perfect fit. The upper is made with the same indestructible material as the original Trail Glove.. Relative to TG1 the toe box is a bit wider and accommodated my wide feet and toe splay nicely. The lugs are a bit more aggressive than the original Trail Glove which is a real improvement. The total stack is a bit thicker than the TG1 as well, retaining excellent ground feel while giving a bit more protection than the original TG1. The Trail Glove 3, like the TG1 and TG2, has a swatch of rubber that conforms to the arch to provide rock protection. The material used in TG3 is firmer than the material used for TG1. I noticed this when first donning the TG3s but it seemed to disappear when I started running. Trail Glove 3 looks like a great shoe, I am quite happy with my purchase.
